Christmas after all is a historical fiction book that takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana, 1932 during the great depression. This book is about a 10 year old girl named Minnie. Minnie has one younger brother named Ozzie and three older sisters named Lady, Clem, and Gwen. in the beginning Her parents adopt an orphaned girl around Minnies age named Willie Faye.

It is christmas time in Indiana but due to the great depression it is not as cheery as it usually is. her father just lost his job, the bank just closed, and one of the oldest car companies in America closed to. Minnie’s father had been sitting in the attic ever since he lost his job. One day minnie’s father is missing and there is a note saying not to worry. they worry anyway.

Christmas is now even more gloomy now that there father is missing, but they still make christmas presents for each other. On christmas eve they come home from caroling to find the house decorated and there father sitting on the couch. Minnie’s father explains that he was in new york selling a script for a radio show that he wrote. He didn't tell them because he didn’t know if it would sell or not.
